Frequently Asked Questions

Other ways you can you give

At First Baptist, we have a couple of ways that you can give to God’s work through your tithes and offerings.

Cash or check

You can give by check or cash on Sundays, or you can mail or drop off a check to our offices.

Bill Pay offered through your bank

You may also choose to use the “bill pay” service provided online by your bank. These services are typically free to account holders. Simply add First Baptist Church of Troy as a payee in your bank and you can schedule gifts or make one-time gifts with ease. The church pays no transactional fees when giving by this method.

First Baptist Church of Troy Online Giving Site

Online site

You may also make a gift online through this site. When you use our online giving site, we strongly urge you to give by electronic check, as the transaction fees paid by the church are significantly less than those required by card transactions. For example, when giving a $100 gift, the church pays 45 cents in fees when you give using a Debit card using your pin #. The church pays $2.75 when you give by Visa, MasterCard or Discover. However, when you pay by electronic check the church only pays 35 cents. Due to the cost to the church, we do not accept American Express.

We encourage you to not put your tithe or offering on your credit card if you do not pay it off monthly.  Going into debt to give to the Lord does not honor Him.

“… the borrower is servant to the lender.”  (Proverbs 22:7)

“Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellow man has fulfilled the law.”  (Romans 13:8)

Why give to the local church?

Through giving, we are recognizing that God is the giver and constant provider of all things.

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” (James 1:17)

We also are acknowledging that God is the owner of all we have when we give back to Him a portion of what He has so generously provided. Our giving back to Him is also an act of worship that should be done with a thankful spirit.

“The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it…” (Psalm 24:1)

Giving is also commanded of the believer in Scripture. Throughout Scripture, when people would come before God in worship, they would always have something to offer and it was generally not considered a worthy gift unless it costs them something.

“The best of the first fruits of your ground you shall bring into the house of the LORD your God.” (Exodus 23:19)

Through generous and thankful giving it also keeps money from becoming our master.

“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.” (Matthew 6:24)

Through your giving to the local church, not only do you support First Baptist Church of Troy and God’s local missions through it, but you literally support thousands of missionaries and God’s missions through them around the world through the Southern Baptist Cooperative Program that First Baptist Church of Troy supports.
